January Learner Response

 1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).

WWW:This is a very good lesson in exam technique for future assessments. In Q4 you cover a lot of good neories and alo address both sides of he argument. This gives us plenty to build on.

EBI - The unseen text analysis (Q1) is the key

area to work on: you need much more than makes it stand out. Pick out key elements (colour, crown, image, font etc.) and discuss possible connotations for each one.

-

For Q2+ Q3, revise industry terminology and public service broadcasting

2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment.
1.Verbal Codes (text): font
   gold colour and detail
2.Diversification
3.PSB: BBC,ITV,Channel 4
   Unique funding models
4.Cultivation theory: watching tv over time will influence audience.

3) On a scale of 1-10 (1 = low, 10 = high), how much revision and preparation did you do for this assessment? You may also want to think here whether you had completed all the original blog tasks from last term before doing the assessment.
4/10

4) Look at your answer for Question 2. Did you manage to write about three different strategies and three different benefits? It's vital you read the question and follow it exactly.
I wrote two direct strategies and benefits could not name a third.

5) Look at your answer for Question 3. Did you follow the question guidance and write about both the BBC and commercial broadcasters? What could you have added to this answer to reach a higher mark?
I mixed up PSB and commercial broadcasters and their funding models.

6) Now look over your mark, teacher comments and the mark scheme for Question 4 - the 20 mark essay question on media effects theory. Write a new paragraph for this question based on the suggested theories/answers in the mark scheme. Make sure it is an extensive, detailed paragraph focused on the question and offering examples from the wider media.

I somewhat agree with the statement as Gerbener’s Cultuvation theory suggest that audiences will be influenced with what the consume over time.As many things now contain strong language and violence they could be influencing audiences to have a taste for such violence. But that’s why there are age rating given by Ofcom which give the media a rating based on such factors. This could develop into mean world syndrome and make all audiences have a negative view and therefore create a world in which they follow what they consume on the television. This further proves the stament on how media can have a damaging effect on audiences.
