Industries: Ownership and control blog tasks

Media conglomerate research 1) Type up your research notes from the lesson - what did you find out about your allocated media conglomerate? Selection of companies: Alphabet,  The Walt Disney Company,  National Amusements,  Meta,  News Corp,  Time Warner, Comcast. If you were absent or didn't have time in the lesson to make these notes, research any one of the companies above and find examples of all the terminology outlined in the notes at the start of this blogpost. Name of media conglomerate:  Disney Conglomerate ownership:  History, Pixar, National Geographic, ABC, ESPN Vertical integration: Pixar Horizontal integration:  Marvel Convergence:  Mickey Mouse Synergy: 20 Century Fox Diversification:  Disney+   Cross-media regulation:  Disney and DeSantis 1) Briefly describe the production, promotion and distribution process for media companies. The production process provides audiences with the media products they want. It needs to consider the audience’s desires and should provid

Audience theory 2

Theory questions and your opinion 1) Social learning theory has been criticised for simplifying the causes of violence in society. Do you think the media is responsible for anti-social behaviour and violence? There is an extent to which social learning theory is applicable, for example in the case of children who are most impressionable and therefore able to develop habits and thoughts from others easier. 2) How is social learning theory relevant in the digital age? Are young people now learning behaviour from social media and the internet? Give examples. Social learning theory is relevant in the digital age because of how many more behaviours from people can be observed by young audiences, for example any behaviour of influencers that children online may try to imitate.  3) Research three examples of moral panic from the last 50 years. To what extent was the media responsible for these moral panics? Was the concern in society justified? How have things changed as a result of these mor

Assessment 1: learner response

1) Type up your feedback in  full  (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential). WWW: This is a very solid first assessment- well done! It's clear you have studied media before with your focus on the text in Q1. The challenge now is to push towards those top levels in every question. EBI: -In Q2 you need more focus on social and cultural contexts. we'll look at this is class.         - In Q3 genre theory would push you towards top levels. 2) Read  the mark scheme for this assessment  carefully. Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment. Q1:Narrative codes suggest action, violence and confrontation – genre of order (Shatz) Q2:In the Ill Manors poster the character possibly reflects social concerns over criminal gangs in urban settings. • Nike advert is deliberately ambiguous with character’s anonymity allowing anyone to imagine themselves as the winner of the ‘Showdown’, working hard

Audience theory 1: blog tasks

1) Read this  Mail Online article about the effects of videogames . How does this article link to the hypodermic needle model? The audience takes in  information  passively without asking this can be seen through the article where kids take in the violent impact of Videogames making it seem as addictive and dangerous towards their healthy. 2) How does coverage of the Talk Talk hacking case (see Daily Mail front page below) link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone  criticise  this front page?  The article shows that the teenager played and was very interested in  high violent videogames. Using the hyper dermic needle theory we can see that the producer targeted passive consumers. This 15 year old teen seems to be the targeted consumer who has fallen into the producers trap. 3) What do  you  think of the hypodermic needle theory? Do audiences believe everything they see in the media? The hypodermic needle is less believable now in the modern age with a range of new technolo
