  Read the Factsheet and complete the following questions/tasks: 1) What is regulation and why do media industries need to be regulated? Regulation  is a system that  provide rules and regulations to ensure that organisations operate fairly they do this to monitor the way that their industries work. 2) What is OFCOM responsible for? OFCOM regulates broadcast media such as TV and radio. 3) Look at the section on the OFCOM broadcasting code. Which do you think are the three most important sections of the broadcasting code and why? 1) Why is representation an important concept in Media Studies? Representation create meaning, it is a central to an understanding of the media. The media intervene and stand between the object and what we see – the act of communicating the image or idea in some way changes it. 2) How does the example of Kate Middleton show the way different meanings can be created in the media? • A picture editor selects the photo from a whole series of images to be used to illustrate a news story. The image may be cropped, resized and, in some cases, photoshopped. • A news editor will decide on the way the story will be presented, and the use of captions to pin down, or anchor, the meaning of the image. • The photograph of Kate Middleton in the newspaper is a re-presentation of what she looks like, with people controlling and manipulating the image at various stages throughout the process. • The Duchess herself, the person, is some distance away from the image that is reproduced. 3) Summarise the sec

1) Why did you choose A Level Media Studies? I enjoyed it at GCSE. 2) Did you take GCSE Media Studies (either here at Greenford or a different school)? Yes I did media studies at Greenford High School. 3) If you answered yes to Q2, what grade did you achieve in GCSE Media? What coursework task did you complete? What would you say your strengths and weaknesses were in GCSE Media? I achieved a grade 6 at GCSE Media. The courserowrk brief was a two minute sequence for a new television science fiction/ fantasy drama series including narrative resolution would occur towards end of episode.My strengths were filming and editing to fit the brief. 4) What grade do you hope to achieve in A Level Media?
